Willard Club House
Net-Zero Public Building for Berkeley
Alter Engineers provided mechanical, plumbing, and controls engineering services for the Willard Club House, focusing on a comprehensive review and troubleshooting of the building's complex ventilation and hydraulic systems. The existing facility faced significant challenges with thermal comfort and temperature regulation due to systemic issues in its design.
Our team's expert analysis identified critical design flaws within the hydraulic network, including a problematic primary/secondary loop structure and unregulated, constant water flow to the air coils, which prevented the system from operating as intended. Alter Engineers is developing and implementing solutions to address these core failures, restore proper system operation, and ensure a comfortable environment for the building's occupants.
How does the system work?
The first year of operation shows very promising energy efficiency!
